Target Audience:
Individuals who are not yet in formal leadership roles (not currently team leads/supervisors/managers) but have been identified by their supervisor as demonstrating natural leadership skill with potential to grow into more formal leadership positions in the future
Program Description:
Some individuals are born with an inclination towards natural leadership. They lead informally without titles within our facilities, positively influencing peers and group efforts. Continuing to challenge these individuals and support their development may be the key to retaining them as employees and ensuring the ongoing pipeline of internal promotion for future leadership roles.
This 4-part program lays the foundation for growing elements associated with their emerging success as an effective leader. The program roots characteristics of servant leadership, offers participants exposure to example and advice of respected leaders within health care, builds interpersonal skills associated with positive influence of others, and initiates technical supervisory skills.
Program Objectives - Participants will learn to:
- Explore characteristics of successful leadership guided by principles reflective of positive influence and service
- Highlight leadership progression through the life cycle of leaders
- Demonstrate how leadership approaches modify according to situational needs
- Formulate definitions to the term “diversity”
- Shed light on our existing biases
- Acknowledge differences in personalities, including their strengths & limitations
- Explore the 5 generations in the workplace
- Outline 5 elements of Belonging
- Increase awareness of the 4 attributes comprising emotional intelligence
- Articulate characteristics of effective communicators
- Differentiate communication styles that interfere with assertive presence
|
- Understand the influence of body language, tone of voice, and words on communication messaging
- Outline appreciation techniques using the 5 Love Languages
- Explore how leaders use motivation techniques to influence behaviors of others
- Learn conflict management principles and apply to an existing situation
- Identify which of the 8 Wastes exist within the current workplace
- Practice 5S principles
- Identify questions & behaviors reflective of personal accountability vs. victim mentality
- Practice having a peer accountability conversation
- Experience the challenges of staff scheduling while delivering excellent care and service
- Formulate an Individualized Development Plan
|
Consider participating if the following is mostly true for you:
- You have been told by your supervisor (and others) that you’re a natural leader
- You don’t have an official title such as lead, supervisor, or manager…yet you seem called upon to facilitate group efforts such as committees or interdisciplinary teams
- You have an interest in a future leadership role and your supervisor has indicated intent to support your growth in that
- Peers seem to follow your example and look to you for guidance on a frequent basis
- When your lead or supervisor needs to step away from the department, you are asked to oversee activities until they return and/or you naturally end up filling that role
