Workshop Description:

Research suggests that one in every eleven interactions involves an element of conflict.  Imagine how many interactions you have in a day and how often conflict shows up.  Yes, most of those conflict moments don’t require formal conversations to resolve, but some do.  In those situations, you may be like most people and struggle to step into the difficult conversations with confidence.

This interactive workshop will offer the necessary insight to understand what’s behind conflict and equip participants with knowledge of how to hold difficult conversations, entering the dialogue with a healthy and assertive state of mind towards effective resolution.  It will also explore strategies for responding to difficult or defensive reactions.  Lastly, it offers a structure for appropriately mediating conflict between others.

Participants will learn to:

  1. Review what’s behind the makings of a difficult conversation
  2. Sort through the emotional response to explore a more objective approach
  3. Practice resolution of your own difficult conversation
  4. Develop strategies for managing challenging behaviors during conflict conversations
  5. Explore methods for effectively mediating others’ conflicts

Consider taking this workshop if the following are mostly true for you:

  • You avoid conflict altogether whenever possible
  • You are often intimidated or hesitant to step into difficult conversations you know you need to have
  • You know you should resolve conflicts directly with those you have differences with…you just don’t know how
  • You haven’t had a lot of success when you’ve tried to resolve conflict with others
  • You continue having the same conflicts over and over despite your best efforts to resolve them
  • You know the basics of conflict resolution but you don’t know how to respond if the other person becomes defensive or shuts down in the midst of that effort
  • You get pulled into the conflicts of others and you don’t know how to help them to get to their own resolutions
  • Conflict and drama at work is impacting the cohesiveness of your team and the success of your efforts
