OB Boot Camp (5-day) March 2023

Are you a new nurse to obstetrics (OB)? Is OB nursing something you are considering in your future? Have you been working in OB for a while but just don’t feel comfortable yet? Are you an OB nurse who hasn’t dealt with an OB emergency in a while? If you answered yes to one or more of these questions, then this OB Boot Camp is designed just for you. During this week-long experience we will explore all aspects of working in a rural healthcare obstetrics unit. Throughout this interactive boot camp, the participants will be engaged in simulated (hands-on) learning opportunities, including case study discussions, role playing effective communication/conflict management techniques, OB and newborn assessments/emergencies and reviewing of priority interventions for various OB situations.

OB Emergencies - 2023

This course is designed to review several obstetrical emergencies which require the caregiver to recognize risk factors, assessment findings and required interventions to low volume/high risk OB situations. Throughout the day, several obstetrical emergencies will be reviewed along with describing signs and symptoms and priority interventions needed/required; these include, but are not limited to: pre-eclampsia/HELLP syndrome, obstetrical hemorrhage situations, shoulder dystocia, emergency delivery, uterine trauma and premature labor. In addition, knowledge learned will be applied and integrated into several simulated case studies.

Basic Arrhythmia Interpretation 2023

This course on basic arrhythmia will include an overview of the heart’s electrical conduction system, review of commonly seen arrhythmias and treatment considerations for abnormal findings and priorities interventions for lethal arrhythmias. Some self-directed activity will also occur as several strips will be presented for individual interpretations throughout the day, so that the learner can proceed at their own pace with the ability to ask questions and receive guided interpretation from the presenter.

ER Boot Camp (5-day) - Spring 2023

Are you a new nurse to the emergency room (ER)? Is ER nursing something you are considering in your future? Have you been working in the ER for a while now but just don’t feel comfortable yet? Are you an ER nurse who hasn’t dealt with a true emergency in a while? If you answered yes, to one or more of these question then this ER Boot Camp is designed just for you. During this week long experience we will explore all aspects of working in a rural healthcare emergency unit. Throughout this interactive boot camp, the participants will be engaged in simulated (hands on) learning opportunities, including case study discussions, role playing effective communication/conflict management techniques, prioritizing complaint specific assessments/interventions/emergencies that may arise in practice. This comprehensive course is designed to provide the ER nurse with a solid foundation from the core principles and standards of care and practice perspective, in hopes of helping get the new nurse ready to practice solo quicker in the unit. Motivational Interviewing 101- May 2023

Motivational Interviewing is a patient centered approach for eliciting behavior change by helping patients explore and understand what is holding them back from being successful. MI focuses on an empathetic, open minded approach, using various skills that ultimately provides the patient with the ability to recognize the discrepancy between their current behavior and their end goal. That new patient-discovered perspective leads to increased patient engagement, adherence to treatment plan and ultimately overall success in meeting their goals.
